Candi Kedulan
( English version here )

Celebrating 1,124 Years of Candi Kedulan: A Spiritual Tribute
On March 30, 2024, I, along with my senior dog Yaris (yes, he’s still going strong!), had the honor of attending a special event to celebrate the 1,124th anniversary of Candi Kedulan. The event, known as Mangayubagya, is a thanksgiving ritual held by the Hindu community as a form of respect to Hyang Shiva and the ancestors.
The gathering brought together around 100 Hindus from various regions, including Yogyakarta, Central Java, Jakarta, Tangerang, and Bekasi. The ceremony was led by Ida Shri Bhagawan Dalem Acarya Maha Kerti Wira Jagad Manik. In this simple yet profound ritual, Hindus came together to worship and honor their ancestors, while also expressing gratitude for the presence of Candi Kedulan, a precious cultural heritage site.
History and Significance of Candi Kedulan
Located in Dusun Kedulan, Tirtomartani Village, Kalasan District, Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta, Candi Kedulan is a historical relic that continues to stand as a witness to the spiritual and cultural journey of Hindus in Indonesia. This event was not only a spiritual gathering but also a reminder of the importance of preserving cultural and religious heritage.
For the participants, Mangayubagya was more than just a religious ritual—it was a moment to strengthen bonds of brotherhood and to raise awareness of the need to protect this valuable legacy for future generations.
A Personal Reflection
By attending the Mangayubagya ceremony, we didn’t just take part in a religious ritual. We united in gratitude and shared a deep sense of community. Candi Kedulan, with its long and rich history, continues to serve as a silent witness to the spiritual and cultural journey of Hindus in Indonesia.
